1. Workshop for Under Graduate Architecture Students in Third Year

A workshop for Architecture students is scheduled to be held at IIT Kanpur during June 01 - 07, 2026. The aim of this workshop is to draw the attention of Architecture students towards keeping the earthquake engineering aspects in view while designing their structures. For details about previous workshops please visit http://www.nicee.org/Architecture_Workshop/.

For further details or any queries please contact: Prof. Durgesh C Rai at Tele - 0512 – 259 7866, Email: nicee@iitk.ac.in.

2. Inter-School Quiz Competition based on IITK-BMTPC Earthquake Tips 2025-26

This edition of the Inter-School Quiz on IITK-BMTPC Earthquake Tips holds special significance as it commemorates the 25th anniversary of the 2001 Bhuj (Gujarat) earthquake. To mark this day, the National Information Centre of Earthquake Engineering (NICEE) has conducted two major events: the EQ tips quiz and a dedicated speech contest.

- The Earthquake Tips Quiz

The quiz was conducted in both physical and virtual formats to encourage widespread participation. The final round of the quiz consisted of four rounds, namely Round Robin, Picture Round, Rapid Fire Round, and Lucky Number Round. A total of eight schools participated on January 26, 2026, at the Outreach Auditorium, IIT Kanpur: KD Ambani Reliance Foundation School, Jamnagar; DAV Public School, Ludhiana; Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Prism School, Satna; Gwalior Glory High School, Gwalior; Indraprastha International School, New Delhi; Nehru World School, Ghaziabad; Blue Bells Model School, Gurugram; and Sheiling House School, Kanpur.

The team from Gwalior Glory High School, Gwalior, secured the first position, followed by KD Ambani Reliance Foundation School, Jamnagar, in second place and Blue Bells Model School, Gurugram, in third place.

- NICEE-CSI Student Speech Contest

In addition to the quiz, NICEE conducted "NICEE-CSI Student Speech Contest: Advocating for Seismic Safety". A total of 25 students participated in the contest, delivering 3-minute speeches highlighting the importance of earthquake safety and preparedness. The contest aimed to encourage students to think critically, speak confidently, and spread awareness on seismic safety, thereby contributing to the vision of a safer and more resilient society. The speeches were evaluated by a jury panel comprising ten members, including post-doctoral, doctoral, and master’s students specializing in earthquake engineering at IIT Kanpur.

In the Speech Contest, Mr. Angad Singh Bakshi and Ms. Harshita Hora from DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, Ludhiana, secured the first position, while Mr. Virat Handa from Sheiling House School, Kanpur, and Mr. Trinabh Gaite from Blue Bells Model School, Gurugram, secured the second and third positions, respectively.

For further details please visit http://www.nicee.org/Quiz/quiz.htm. Schools willing to participate in the preliminary round of the quiz for the year 2026-27 may please contact: Prof. Durgesh C Rai at Tele - 0512 – 259 7866, Email: nicee@iitk.ac.in.

3. Literature Review Workshop for Post-Graduate Students

The details of Annual Workshop for post graduate students pursuing their masters or doctorate degree with thesis in earthquake engineering will be promulgated shortly.

4. Open House of NICEE

The open house is held with the aim to enable postgraduate students to conduct literature survey for their thesis related to earthquake engineering issues and interact with the faculty and professionals. The Open House also welcomes professional engineers and architects to help them familiarize themselves with enormous literature available at NICEE on design and construction of safe habitat. The details of the Open House will be promulgated shortly. For further details or any queries please contact: Prof. Durgesh C Rai at Tele - 0512 – 259 7866, Email: nicee@iitk.ac.in.

5. Intimation Regarding Change of Postal Address/ email id

It gives me great pleasure to inform you that we currently have more than 15,470 subscribers on NICEE list. At times we face problem of our mails being blocked by the outside servers with the presumption that we are spamming.

We would therefore like to request you to please do inform us as and when you switch over from one email id to another. We will stop sending mails to your old email id and will subscribe your current email id to nicee-list so that you continue to receive communication from NICEE.

Similarly, it is our earnest request that please do let us know whenever you want us to change your postal address and we will update our records. You may please inform us by sending a mail to nicee@iitk.ac.in.

6. RESIST Software Available for Individual Users

RESIST Software is now available for individual users. A copy of the same can be requested from NICEE on payment of Rs. 2,000/-. This version of RESIST is customized to Indian codes and construction conditions.

However, a more recent update is available with greatly enhanced graphical features but it is based upon New Zealand codes and practices. It may be downloaded free of charge from the New Zealand Society of Earthquake Engineering website at https://www.nzsee.org.nz/library/other-publications/resist/.

For further details regarding the earlier version please visit http://www.nicee.org/npeee/showpage.php?id=149 and for any queries please contact: Prof. Durgesh C Rai at Tele - 0512 – 259 7866, Email: nicee@iitk.ac.in.
