1. Workshop for Under Graduate Architecture Students in Third Year

The 16th National Workshop for UG students of Architecture was held in a hybrid mode with online technical lectures being distributed on 1st – 2nd June 2024, and in-person studios conducted during 11th – 15th June 2024, at IIT Kanpur. The workshop was attended by 34 students who have completed six semesters of studies in their respective architecture programs, from 9 institutes from all over India and Nepal.

During the workshop, the students learnt architectural and structural aspects of earthquake-resistant design and implemented it for a project Design an Office Complex on a site in Gandhidham, a city located in Kutch district, Gujarat. The studio sessions were a mix of desk work and informal lectures where individual cases were used to illustrate earthquake engineering concepts.

In online sessions, Dr. Hari Kumar, Geo Hazards, New Delhi delivered a lecture covering the topics about causes of earthquakes, basic terminology, earthquake ground motion, et al. Prof. Atanu K Dutta of Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology, Jorhat discussed the factors affecting earthquake loads on buildings, and Prof. Vasudha Gokhale of Dr. B.N. College of Architecture for Women, Pune, gave insight on Buildings Add-Ons

Faculty members who participated as the resource persons included Prof. Vasudha Gokhale, Prof. Meera Shirolkar, and Prof. Sujata Mehta, Dr. B.N. College of Architecture for Women, Pune; Prof. Bhavana Vimawala & Prof. Nehal Desai, Sarvajanik University, Surat; Prof. Nayanmoni Chetia, Jorhat Engineering College, Jorhat.
