and flank retaining walls of a road bridge in the close proximity of the village was
observed. Damages to buildings in Jamatara, Paraswara and Kodariya villages
were by and large similar. In Kodariya village a building constructed in bricks
with cement mortar (Fig. 2-14) suffered scale II to scale III damage and other
weak houses (type A) were almost destroyed. In Jamatara and Paraswara villages
majority of adobe houses suffered severe damage. An intensity VII" was assigned
to these villages. The soil cover in these villages is about 10 to 13 m.
An intensity of VI" to VI was assigned to Gauraiyaghat and Nigri. A bridge on the
Gaur river near Gauraiyaghat suffered no damage. However, major cracks and
even partial collapse of some buildings wete observed in the neighbourhood. Fig-
ure 2-15 demonstrates the damaged Ayurved Hospital in Gauraiyaghat village.
No damage was observed to the Bargi dam located about 32 km away from the
Jabalpur city. Power House Building was also inspected and no damage was
noticed except for the minor plaster cracks at expansion joints. No change in
quantity of water seepage was reported by the site engineers. Both of these engi-
neered structures did withstand the earthquake shaking without any damage. An
intensity ofVI was assigned to the region around Bargi dam. However, minor to
major cracks were reported in RC buildings of the Bargi Nagar.
