Seismological Aspects
TRACT VI1: Kogwan--Amahinauta--Bheraghat-Shahpur
The most of the buildings of the Govt. Deaf and Dumb School in Kogwan suf-
fered major damage and roof of one of the buildings collapsed. Some indication
of settlement of the soil foundation (Fig, 2-10) was observed. Minor cracking in
the loose black soil cover and the tilting of the compound wall were observed.
Almost similar pattern of damage was observed in Ranital area. The intensity VII
was assigned in Ranital and Kogwan villages. In Madan Mahal no disturbance to
the "balancing rock" was observed (Fig. 2-11). Temples, small houses on the way
to Madan Mahal fort constructed on granite rocks suffered no damage. However,
in localities situated close to Madan Mahal, major cracks were observed in the
houses and four people reported to have died.
No geological damages in Bheraghat on banks of the Narmada river were
observed. An art objects merchant reported that most ofshivlings in his store were
toppled. However, the largest shivling in the store weighing 40 kg was tilted at its
base. Peak ground acceleration was estimated to be between 0.3g to 0.4g (Refer
